Thousands
of Tobagonians gathered this week to mourn the loss of a beloved
teacher, Evelyn James. Mr. James, who was murdered at her
school last week, had more than 20 years of teching experience
and her influence on countless Tobagonians was clear from
the massive turnout for her funeral. In addition to the eleven
religious leaders in attendence, there were several prominent
politicians and numerous school children who had been excused
from class to attend the memorial. On an island which typically
has only a handful of murders a year, James' violent death,
which occured at a school assembly at the hands of a parent
suspected of incest, has shocked the local population to the
core.
